Today was my first real day in Pleasant Prairie, and I’m honestly surprised. Before coming here, I pictured it as extremely rural — flat farmland, quiet roads, not much going on. It is quieter than New York, and definitely slower, but I actually like it. There’s something calming about the open space and the lack of noise. It feels grounded. Clean air, wide skies, simple surroundings. It’s refreshing.
Training started this morning. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it ended up being a really good day. I always get a little observant in new environments — watching personalities, energy, how people interact. By mid-morning, I had already connected with a few people in the class. There’s something about being new together that makes it easier to bond. Shared awkwardness turns into shared laughs pretty quickly.
The training itself was engaging. Structured, organized, and professional. I liked that. It felt productive. I could already tell this experience is going to stretch me in a good way.
The best part of the day was after training. A group of us decided to grab dinner together. We went to a Halal restaurant nearby. I was happy about that — I really prefer Halal when I can find it. The sourcing standards and cleanliness align more with how I like to eat. It feels closer to organic, more intentional. The food was simple but flavorful — grilled meats, fresh vegetables, warm bread. Nothing heavy or greasy. I left feeling satisfied, not sluggish.
Dinner was fun. Real conversations. Stories about where everyone’s from. A lot of laughing. It felt natural — not forced networking, just genuine connection. I’m grateful for that. Being away from home can feel isolating, but tonight didn’t feel that way.
Pleasant Prairie may be quieter than I imagined, but maybe that’s the point. Space to focus. Space to grow. And today, space to begin something new.
